TYPES OF MASSAGE

Several types of sports massage treatments are available from Flight Equine Therapy, these include:

  • MAINTENANCE:

Used as part of the horse's exercise routine, tailored to the individual as a tool, for the prevention of injury, to aid physical development, assist within the training programme and ensure your horse's continued enjoyment of active life.

  • REHABILITATION:

Remedial treatment is available to introduce the injured horse back into work. This type of work I have found very useful in the rehabilitation and re-schooling of racehorses. This programme can also incorporate massage to patients on box rest. By aiding an increase in blood and lymph flow around the body recovery time can be reduced (depending on the problem). It will also reduce boredom and other problems associated with prolonged confinement.

  • PRE-EVENT MASSAGE:

Ensuring a thorough warm up of the entire body, this therapy type will aid injury prevention during exercise. Passive stretches will prepare and encourage the limbs and muscles of the trunk to function to their full working capacity, allowing your horse to perform to its full potential.

  • POST EVENT MASSAGE:

This therapy type is useful for; facilitating removal of some of the toxins built up in the muscles during exercise, therefor decreasing recovery time. As well as a reduction in any stiffness or soreness that may slow your horses return to normal work after competition, it will ensure any small muscular injuries sustained during an event will be detected. Early detection and prompt resolution of these problems can prevent further muscular, ligament or tendon catastrophe associated with a lack of elasticity and fatigue.
